The Capitall Stud, Cumbria (John & Joan Sillitoe) have sent us a picture of their second filly foal (Honeybun x Mannog Moonriver).  Called "Capitall Selina".  Another lovely filly - what long legs.

Just been told that on Saturday she went to her first show ( NCPA Myerscough) with her mum.  Travelled like she had done it all before - only class she could do though was hack/riding horse type 3 yrs and under . She came 2nd (only foal) and has qualified for shows later in the year.  Impeccably behaved, lots of fans and home safe and sound.

Well done Joanne and Joan.

April Snows 2013

Well it snowed in January but we managed however the snow in April was very heavy.  To have to dig ourselves out from the back door to get to the horses was something else.  Fortunately we managed to get them under cover the night before and they had a great time when we eventually managed to let them out. The snow was hock deep in places, with drifting up to three feet and it stayed for ages as the night temperatures were below freezing.

We dug out our  driveway   48 hours later to get to  our neighbours who had managed to get a JCB across a field to dig themselves out.  However the main lane (photographed) was ten foot snow drifts hedge to hedge.  Eventually four days later we managed to get two JCBs in - one to clear from the bottom end and one from the top end - to clear.  It took over four hours but we could now get out to the road - and our neighbour ended up with one HUGE snow mountain in his field.

We thank ourselves very lucky though - as this was lambing season farmers did not have such a good time losing hundreds of lambs and sheep to the snow.

lane cleared at last
